NAAF Sends T.O. Students to Biosphere 2 Science Academy

The Native American Advancement Foundation and Biosphere 2 recently sponsored two high school students to attend the 2015 Biosphere 2 Summer Science Academy (SSA). Students were chosen by school faculty for showing promise and dedication in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and math.

Representing Tohono O’odham High School:

Shane Campillo, son of Nicholasa Miguel, of Palo Verde Stand Community, Gu Achi District

Raymanda Mendez, daughter of Sonya Frank and Verland Mendez Sr., Gu Vo Community, Gu Vo District

Over a one-week program in July 2015, SSA welcomed over 80 students from around the United States as well as from Mexico and Canada, to participate in a unique, immersive research experience. Each group of approximately 40 students spent a week asking a novel question under the mentorship and guidance of Biosphere 2 faculty members, researched areas inside Biosphere 2, and took advantage of the beautiful Sonoran Desert setting.

We could not be more proud of these two! Great work Raymanda and Shane!
